The funeral for Joe Barker reporter, died in the Federal street fire, drew a vast crowd at St Marys Church, Cambridgeport. Priests, friends, and newspaper colleagues honored him with a simple silver inscribed coffin and a final rite led by Rev Thomas Scully and Father Gannon. The procession moved to Holy Cross Cemetery Malden where he rests.
