Thrilling three state chase nets Petersham desperado

After a three day pursuit across Massachusetts and Vermont, deputy sheriff Daniel H. Rice of Barre and Bellows Falls Chief A. H. Thompson arrested Herbert Taylor alias George Davis alias Bert Needham, the Petersham suspect known as Tracy of New England. He faced charges of larceny and assault on Mrs. Elsino Ward and was to be arraigned in Athol. The capture followed tips from locals and detective work tracing his route from Winchendon to Belows Falls and beyond.

Two South Boston boxers fight to finish in secret bout

In South Boston near Police Station 6 on Broadway, two pugilists staged a bare knuckle bout before about 100 locals smuggled in through rear windows. The match lasted almost 50 minutes with Captain Wescott’s 40 patrolmen unable to locate the event as both fighters collapsed, one in a dead faint and the other knocked out for nearly 20 minutes before being taken home.
