Double Tragedy as Husband Kills Wife Then Himself at Chelsea Gate
Waller a tuberculosis sufferer chased his wife Gladys and sister-in-law Edith Johns to the Chelsea factory gate and shot them. He first killed Edith, then fired at Gladys and finally turned the gun on himself after pursuing a boy who cried out. Mrs Waller died at the edge of the field, while Mrs Johns was wounded and rushed to Chelsea Memorial Hospital. The incident followed threats and prior domestic strain linked to illness and suspicions of infidelity. The couple had one child Marion. Gladys worked at a weaving plant to support them.
