Married at 13 Seeks Divorce in Maine Court
Ruth Palmer, now 20, testified in Portland that she was forced to marry Harris M. Palmer at 13 after her mother agreed to a trip to the White Mountains. He allegedly took her to a house in Dover where she remained two hours before consent. The couple lived apart and together off and on until Palmer deserted her in 1914. A prior attempt to annul or obtain a divorce failed as desertion did not meet the three year requirement. Judge Sanborn reserved decision.
