Manila January 9 1900 The situation nears a climax as Aguinaldo warns Americans may be expelled and natives strike across the city. General Otis maintains control with troops under arms while Californians disembark and workers in the commissary department walk out.
Gardner entered the ring 5 lbs lighter than his opponent. Dave Sullivan secured first blood in the seventh round and knocked his opponent to a knee in the sixth.
Oscar Gardner of Omaha defeats Dave Sullivan of Ireland at Lenox Athletic Club in New York. Gardner lands a trio of right-hand blows in a clinch scramble before a final left hook ends Sullivan’s challenge in the seventeenth round. Gardner vows a return fight with George Dixon.

Aaron Fellows, a 45 year old New York City teacher, is arrested after the Boston case ties him to forging his father Nicholas Fellows 2300 in United States bonds nine years after they were stolen from a Watts River farmer. Police traced a Vermont connection and an alias Nicholas Fellows as the stock seller.
A noon crash at West Dunellen between Lehigh Valley passenger trains killed thirteen and wounded more than twenty five. Among the dead is the son of a Shamokin bank president. a 12 year old child also perished. The disaster followed an earlier freight wreck at Bound Brook that forced trains to share a single line. Engineers and crews leapt free as the two engines collided and a front car of the excursion train smashed. Coroner’s inquest set for Bound Brook as injured victims were treated at Plainfield Hospital and hospitals in Jersey City and New York.
Oliver Wood William S Wood and Alexander Willard were arraigned before Judge McDonald this afternoon on a charge of assaulting John Doucet an operative at the Middlesex factory with a dangerous weapon.
