Graphic Narrative of Murfreesboro Retreat and Rosecrans

Special correspondence from Murfreesboro describes the Confederate assault, the heavy losses of the Ohio German regiment, and the Confederate and Union lines near the Murfreesboro road. The retreat shook spirits. officers were blamed while Rosecrans fortified with high ground and fords. After a three hour lull the center repulsed a weaker assault and fighting paused after midnight.

Governor John A. Andrew Inaugurated In Boston Senate

The Boston legislature met for the oath of office as John A. Andrew became Governor and Joel Hayden was sworn in as Lieutenant Governor. The Senate and House convened at noon for the ceremony and Andrew delivered his annual message, noted elsewhere in the paper. Rev Edward W Clark accepted Chaplaincy in the Senate.
