Arkona Crew Faces Starvation After Labrador Wreck
The crew of the fishing schooner Arkona and residents of Forteau Bay on the Canadian Labrador coast face starvation unless aid arrives immediately. Arkona, owned by Gloucester Fresh Fish Co, was icebound in the Straits of Belle Isle ten days ago while en route from Green Bay to Bay of Islands. Admiral Wood ordered an ice breaking steamer from Halifax to assist, as ice prevented the regular provision boat from reaching the settlement. The Arkona has a ten man crew.
