The American steamship Harry Luckenbach was torpedoed and sunk with loss of life, according to word received by the vessel owners on January 7.
Eight crewmen are missing after the Harry Luckenbach, a Luckenbach line vessel of 2798 gross tons built in 1881 and later renamed, is believed sunk in the English Channel after being requisitioned on Oct 15 by General Pershing. Capt. Jones commanded the ship, with 30 crew plus naval guard.
