A three alarm blaze from the cellar of a six tenement three story building at 19 and 21 Harvard street Somerville drove six families to the street. Damage was about 20000 dollars. Mrs Ellen M Brown 78 was rescued. Mrs Edward J Ackroyd alerted residents after discovering fire in the elevator shaft.

Firefighters Hurt as Lieutenant Bridges Falls from Ladder

Two firefighters George Shea of Ladder 2 and Lieutenant George Bridges of Hose 7 were injured. Bridges was partially overcome by smoke on a ladder and fell ten feet, but his crew helped him up and he stayed at his post despite being dazed and lightly cut and bruised.

Little Hope at Navy Yard Discharges at Boston

Secretary of the Navy Meyer said discharged Boston naval yard workers have no winter reinstatement prospects and should seek nongovernment jobs. Congressmen Curley and Roberts had urged changing last Saturday's discharges to furloughs, but Meyer maintained no work could be supplied.

Tragic Elevator Accident Kills 22-Year-Old Miss Welter

Brookline Man Burns In Home Fire After Sleep

John Casey of 19 Washington Street Brookline fell asleep while smoking in the cellar of his home late last night. He was badly burned and taken by police ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital after his son, returning from coal for the fire, found him and smelled burning clothes.
