Bogus Mason scheme lands man in New York Grand Jury
Frederick A. Burnham cites Jacques Ochs a Roumanian con artist who claimed to run a Grand Orient of Free and Accepted Masons of North America. Ochs charged $10 to $25 for simple initiations and up to more for the thirty third degree, duping East Siders in fake lodges and gathering over $50,000. Over 100 Grand Jury complaints filed. Ochs indicted for grand larceny in March 1894. Detective plans to bring him back from Chicago for trial.
