The United States signs a public pact with Britain and France to rush troops to Europe. The agreement to provide a large army and fast training aims to replace Russian forces. Britain and France will supply transports for the men.
The Federal Regional Milk Commission under Hoover fixes milk prices for Boston area after Jan 6. Quart milk rises to 14.5 cents and pints to 8 cents. farmers receive 84 cents per quart. The decision follows a full day of discussions at the State House and an evening session at the Boston City Club with dealer and producer representatives.
The Massachusetts milk commission fixed postwar prices to balance farmer and consumer gains. Producers may charge 8 1/2 cents per quart f. o. b. Boston, with delivery deductions. distributors set 14 1/2 cents for family sales and 12 1/2 cents for bottled milk. Cans scale for bulk to hotels and restaurants. butter fat adjustments also noted. A three month review clause remains.
Cambridge police found 14 year old James Eddy near a bonfire on a vacant Albany street lot. He said he slept in barns and doorways after running away from Middlesex Truant School and walked about % miles to Cambridge to escape the cold. His feet were frozen.
Reports from Petrograd say separate peace negotiations with Germany and the central powers are halted. The Brest Litovsk delegates’ attitude and Germany’s annexation aims make a separate peace seem unlikely and likely to be broken off entirely.
Bolshevik foreign minister Leon Trotzky and associates protest Germanys insistence while Baltic provinces remain occupied. They argue the regions are under military pressure and that local votes on peace should be ignored as those provinces are effectively under German control.
