Government Coal Dept Drops Local Dealers In Favor Of Philadelphia Supply
The government will not buy coal from local dealers in the city but will source it from Philadelphia and store it in bulk at the navy yard. Prices locally ranged at 7 22 per ton for broken coal and 825 for egg, well above market. Chief Clerk Youmans sought to defeat the dealer coalition and save by purchasing in Philadelphia at 4 plus transport to the city at 6 20. Boston coal dealers protest the plan.
