Biddeford Maine January 2 there are no new developments in last Saturday night mystery. Rumors swirl though investigations found them unfounded. A Dover New Hampshire man is said to have searched for his wife at a Birch street house of ill repute with a Buxton man involved. A bloody affray is alleged but officers have found no such man. Dr Gratton challenges truth of statements and will testify in court or anywhere else. The young woman involved would not survive without further medical care and police press on to solve the case.
A lively free fight broke out in Denver in front of the Arcade saloon between Slade of the Sullivan group and local celebrities. All participants were intoxicated. officers were overwhelmed before others rescued them. Sullivan sought a revolver inside the American house to shoot someone but was thwarted by proprietor Smith who ran him out with the weapon drawn.
A Great Western Grand Trunk suburban collision near Toronto on January 2 killed 22 and left three dying with about 30 mangled and badly burned. A freight engine struck a dummy engine and two cars, tearing through a car and causing boiler explosions. Conductor Barber admitted ordering a non regular move, triggering the disaster. many victims were laborers from Hamber and others connected to local bolt works.

The 400th anniversary of Ulric Zwingli birth was celebrated on New Year’s Day in reformed churches across the Lehigh Valley. Early this morning barges towed by the steamers Bunton and Case ran free and struck the Davis Island dam pier.
