Contested House Seat Claims and Local Slurs Stir Debate

The Atlas attacks the House organization with forged certificate claims over a Chelsea seat dispute. It notes Mr White had 117 votes to the winner's 118 and accuses the atlas of pursuing false votes. The piece also cites Merriam Maine and a Portland sausage controversy, denying a Boston slander and lampooning sausage methods as a local joke.

Arrivals and Clearances of Foreign and Coastwise Vessels in 1842

The transcript lists arrivals and clearances by ship type for foreign and coastwise traffic in 1842. It notes British dominance among foreign entries and details counts of barks brigs schooners ships and sloops, with nationalities including Prussian Swedish Norwegian Sicilian Danish Bremen Belgian Venezuelan and Oldenburg.
