A Charlestown teacher and Warren street residents question the safety of school fire escapes. Firemen say Dunn ladders are not true escapes since ladders are locked and only usable with keys. They call for exits that are always open and ready for immediate use in a fire emergency.
The Post declares a World’s Fair Candle experiment with public estimates and expert opinions. Locks on building ladders prove unsafe for children, while the candle will be lit tomorrow to answer how long a six foot candle burns and to settle widespread speculation.
