Pickpocket Gang Busted After Elevated Train Struggle

In a crowded northbound elevated car between Pleasant and Boylston stations, W P Ruisseau is robbed of 1400 dollars. John Hourihan and ex-Councilman Frank Cowin pursued and captured a suspect, later identified as Charles Blake alias Baker Carroll Little Cal. Officer O'Brien arrested Blake at Boylston Street station. Blake, an alleged longtime offender, claims innocence as police link him to a broader pickpocket gang operating on the trains.

Women Escape In Night Garb From City Lodging Fire

Eighteen persons including women fled into the street at 1 am when flames swept the lodging house at 224 West Canton Street South End. Landlady Mary Strazburger alarmed by smoke warned lodgers and saved her 1-year-old daughter Florence Strazburger from the blaze. Several residents escaped to an adjacent building. The fire caused heavy damage to the house.

Japs Sweep Back Foe at Shakhe River Front

Twins Rescued From Roxbury Fire At Dana Place

At 12 30 this morning a blaze in the Spillman home at 21 Dana place Roxbury freed two sets of twins. William Connelly and Patrick Lyden woke to the flames and rescued the Spillman parents and their son. Kate McClennen and her six children were led to safety in night clothes from the third floor.

Baro in Hospital After Lexington Shooting Escapes

Edward Baro narrowly survived a buckshot wound after allegedly breaking into Miss Ottaline Alderman’s Lexington home Sunday morning. Police doubt his intoxicated alibi of mistaken entry and plan to arrest Baro when he leaves Massachusetts General Hospital in about two weeks, under guard. Friends and Baro’s parents defend his character as authorities review the case. Alderman, praised for bravery, expresses sympathy for the wounded man and regrets the incident.

Fatal Collapse of Fleet Street Church in Brooklyn
