Shenandoah at Boston Theatre Captivates Crowd

Jacob Litt’s Shenandoah played at the Boston Theatre last evening with lavish scenic design and a vigorous battle scene. Maurice Barrymore and Mary Hampton led strong performances though both tended to overemphasize their lines. Charlotte Crane impressed as Jenny Suckthorne. Shenandoah runs two weeks, followed by Alice Neilsen in The Fortune Teller on March 18.

Flynn's Big Sensation Burlesque at Grand Theatre

Flynn's Burlesque company of twenty five Creoles and twenty whites played to near full houses at the Grand Theatre yesterday and again last night. The program opened with Jokes in High Life and closed with Who Owns the Philippines with lively numbers such as a large colored cake walk and acts by Lina and Vani Fields Baker and Lynn and Bryce and Inman. The Daughters of Columbia patriotic ballet led by Mme Zitella formed a high point among thirty well drilled performers. Next week May Howard burlesquers will headline.

Copenhagen Arrives From London After Turbulent Voyage

The British steamer Copenhagen captained by W S Jones arrived from London via Halifax for bunker coal and proceeded toward Baltimore after a Jan 24 departure. She endured a month of violent gales, lost a propeller blade, and reported a derelict sighting on Feb 10. A second note recounts distress about the Galatea and her crew, and nearby port movements include the Gate City and City of Macon. The port’s exports rose to 2.43 million dollars while imports reached 1.30 million. the Pictou remains overdue near twenty days amid hurricane fears.
