Senator Chandlers Hobby and West Virginia Election Debate
Washington February 26 The House adjourned after reading the journal as Atkinson vs Pendleton contested election case from West Virginia was argued by Rowell for the contestant and O Ferrall for Pendleton. Greenhalge of Massachusetts sparked laughter with a mild sarcasm praising decorum and chivalry while noting Pendleton’s contested seat. He lauded the gentleman from West Virginia for his restraint and contrasted behavior with harsher rhetoric seen elsewhere. He closed with a defense of the noble traits of the first district’s representative and the congress as a whole. The debate paused with perfunctory remarks and the House ad journed.
