In thick weather the destroyer Harding turned sharply to avoid grounding after the George Washington and convoy swung off course. Whistles sounded as Harding's quick maneuvers kept the fleet from striking shore, the crisis narrowly averted.
Forecast for southern New England calls for partly cloudy skies Monday and Tuesday with fair conditions. Winds along the north and middle Atlantic coasts are strong and west on Monday, then diminish by Monday night and shift to moderate or fresh northwest as fair weather continues.
Fourteen Spanish branch IWW members were arrested in New York in raids by secret service and police bomb squad. They allegedly planned to assassinate President Wilson in Boston the next day and hatch a broader terrorist plot. Philadelphia attackers admitted anarchist ties. officials moved to detain the suspects immediately.
New York February 23 government officials disclosed that two Boston street addresses were found on one of the arrested anarchists. The addresses may prove significant as authorities work to trace the band’s ramifying activities, though officials refused to reveal them publicly.
The U S S George Washington with President Wilson aboard reached Boston Harbor last night and will disembark at 11 30 a m. A thunderous salute from harbor forts and a city wide welcome are planned as Boston and New England prepare for the chief executive and Mrs Wilson.
President Woodrow Wilsons secretary Joseph P Tumulty boarded the George Washington with the President in Presidio Roads late last night and plans to remain aboard until today. He left the Copley Plaza suite around 10 pm and accompanied the Ossipee party to Boston.
