Woman detective captures two shoplifters in department store chase

Miss Edith Thompson pursued and captured two male thieves, Moore and Foster, after they displayed bold thefts of ivory figurines in a major department store. The pursuit involved a crowded aisles chase and Moore attempted to flee through the store, finally being restrained by Thompson and handed to a Mr Wentworth. Foster and Moore offered no statements. Providence Fire Destroys Paris House Dry Goods Store

A blaze in the Paris House dry goods store, run by I D Newell & Son, caused about 125000 dollars in damage in Providence R I today. Seventy five clerks worked inside with shoppers present but all escaped unharmed thanks to elevator boy Bert Clarke who guided them from the third floor through flames.

Explosion of a gasoline stove in the Metropolitan Hotel basement started a fire that destroyed the hotel and the Hewlett block, with losses around 160000.
