Drexel Will Probate Admitted in City Office

The will of Francis A. Drexel, late banker, was admitted to probate on Saturday in the register of wills. Dated March 16, 1883, the document directs executors to inventory the estate and, after private bequests, raise ten percent of the net residuary estate in cash for distribution to named charitable institutions. The estate’s value is not yet determined but expected to be very large.

Democrats boycott roll call in joint session

In Springfield on February 21 the Democrats refused to answer the roll call as Republicans held full strength. The speaker questioned his position but believed the session would proceed. 101 votes were cast with Logan at 100 and E Washburn at 1. No quorum. the session adjourned and Democrats departed for home, unlikely to return Monday.

Thieves Loot Mill and Barn Then Abandon Horse and Wagon

In Norwich on Feb 22, thieves entered Albertine Bros. mill at Trading Cove two miles south of the city, stole four cuts of woollen cloth and a horse with wagon, and set the barn ablaze burning it to the ground. The horse and wagon were recovered on Monhegan hill in Montville Saturday morning, and about four cuts of cloth were taken.

Fatal Fires Across Cities Strike Multiple Families

A New York blaze at 11 30 last night left six people dead including an entire Murray family and two more deaths in Philadelphia as flames swept through several downtown blocks. Fire destroyed three houses in New Britain Connecticut and caused heavy losses across many firms on Market Street in Philadelphia.
