Banks Burden Relief Dominates Congress Debate
SPECIAL DESPATCH TO THE BOSTON POST reports Congress favors refunding due securities and repealing the tax on deposits to relieve national banks. Senate passed a deposits tax repeal. House likely blocks origins, but two thirds favor passage. Ways and Means weighs options while critics warn against bank-hostility and bond gambling. Inaugural unrest and apportionment delays add pressure as Republicans clash over house representation.
