Three armed bandits held up John J. Murphy a messenger for the Somerville Trust Company taking 2405.70 in broad daylight yesterday afternoon in the College avenue area a well regarded residential district of Somerville.
At 5 05 the holdup occurred and by midnight three highwaymen fled in a high powered car past officers. Three suspects were arrested and released two hours later with apologies. The car’s registration matched an error in a police transmission. The description by Murphy, 30, a World War veteran, marks it as one of the era’s boldest robberies.
