Providence reports from Block Island indicate six people died in the Reliance coal barge wreck. A woman about 85 washed ashore with belongings including a child's toys. The tug's fate is unknown. The Reliance left Philadelphia Feb 1 for Boston and was towed by Steamer Panther Miller when a west southwest gale struck off Montauk. The hawser parted and was cut to save the steamer, likely saving both craft.
The schooner Magnolia from Weymouth bound for Boothbay Harbor with tankage for Cumberland Bone Company was wrecked on Fisherman's Island last night. The crew were saved but badly frost-bitten. Magnolia was owned by S. Nickerson & Sons and was insured.
An express train on the Central New England and Western railroad bound for Poughkeepsie bridge route was struck by a following freight at East Walden at 1 am. Two brakemen were injured and several cars badly wrecked.
A woman with a baby says landlord threw her out at 22 South Russell Street around 9 PM. She refused to name either party and claimed injury to the child. A crowd gathered as cries drew sympathy. police were not found. The woman had been about to retire when the eviction occurred.
Cobb's Swampscott express team became tangled at the Milk and Washington street corner around 8 45 p m causing over half an hour of delay. Drivers and motormen pulled to free the runner, a crowbar loosened the sleigh and traffic resumed amid relief.
