Sidelights on Life of John L Sullivan Showed Vaudeville Wit

A group of Baudeville actors at an Eastern railroad station teased John L Sullivan with jokes about his health and career. Sullivan answered with sharp quips about fat men, water wagon topics, and politics, recounting his views on Wu Ting Fang Fairbanks and Taft. He boasted of his strength, recalled Cal of his belt, and joked about fat jokes from others. He also noted upcoming boxing bouts and matches planned around March.

Barrow Sets In as De Facto Manager for Red Sox

Ed Barrow confirms he will decide lineup for the Boston Red Sox with input from Frazee. He notes Schang could be everyday catcher if possible, but will evaluate all candidates after spring performances. Barrow expects to shuffle in players via minor leagues while pursuing a major league star to balance the infield and secure Stuffy McInnis for Connie Mack. Webb elected local Baseball Writers’ Association representative.
