Father and Child Fall in Mass. Tragedy on Prescott Street
James J. Downs aged 32 and his two year old daughter Margaret fell from a four story window in the Burbank block Prescott street. The child died within thirty minutes. the father remains in critical condition with a skull fracture a compound thigh fracture and a shoulder break. They struck a wire during the descent after Downs slipped while holding the child. The accident was caused by a low window sill as Downs prepared to depart for Bar Harbor Maine where he had a new job awaiting him.

Fire at the Clifton Hotel in Cedar Rapids Iowa killed nine guests and injured 42 as panicked guests jumped to the street.
