The Nicaragua Canal Debate Delivers Senate Wrangle

The Senate debated the Nicaragua Canal bill amid heated exchanges on Britain’s role and the Clayton-Bulwer treaty. West warned war with Great Britain would ruin commerce, while Edmunds pressed caution. Earthquake and feasibility concerns were raised, and after adjournment the issue moved to conference.
