A special meeting of St Pauls Church proprietors was held to consider selling the church. Of 38 proprietors, 22 voted against and 11 for, with no buyer representatives present. A. J. C. London opposed sale, and Robert C. Winthrop noted few proxies and rare ownership of more than two shares.
Ninth Regiment officers pledge support for Colonel J. H. Whitney of the Fifth if he wins four votes in his own regiment. Whitney is believed to hold the race with nine votes needed for election. The Fifth and Ninth blocs could secure the vacant command this Saturday.
Admiral Sampson is reported ill in bed at the navy yard, with ministers and officers anxious over his delicate health. His prior attack weakened him, and friends say distress stems from perceived Congress criticism regarding Santiago campaign recognition and Schley’s supporters.
About 300 Boston social leaders gathered at Mrs. Quincy Shaw’s 6 Marlboro Street home to form the Boston Equal Suffrage Association for Good Government. Brookline and Cambridge representatives may organize similar clubs next. Carrie Chapman Catt spoke on the woman in politics and saloon influence, with officers elected and over 100 charter members.
BE S Crowell of Somerville has vanished from home after weeks abroad. He had acted for Bristol England heirs to a supposedly vast Crowell estate and claimed success in England. A clairvoyant relative says another Crowell stole 1 million, and James Crowell died after racing letters to heirs.

Miss Maybel Manley niece of Joe Manley VP of the Republican national committee elopes from Menominee Wisconsin to St Louis Missouri to wed Dr W A Borland of Nashville Arkansas. The ceremony occurred at the Planters Hotel last night after Borland proposed the elopement and Miss Manley agreed by return mail.

The recount resolved a December tie and clarified shifting party support among Swedish, French Canadian, and Black voters. USB Thayer and Hoar attended, with turnout boosted by private carriages and health-related voting delays.
Chicago February 19 The Record reports a major silk thread consolidation. All large silk thread manufacturers in the United States will unite. Funding comes from the Coates Thread Company an English firm with 68 million dollars in capital stock. Closing within days transfer of property due by March 1.
In London the Irish Nationalists led by Thomas O'Donnell addressed the House in Gaelic, defying the Speaker who reiterated English is the only allowed language. John Redmond and Edmund Leamy defended the right, while the Speaker insisted no precedent exists for Irish in the chamber. The debate overlapped with South Africa coverage and foreign policy remarks.
