Protest Over Carleton Street Plan At Back Bay Meeting

An adjourned real estate owners meeting on Columbus avenue at Warren Avenue Baptist Church, chaired by Rev Pentecost, debated Carleton Street closure and Back Bay street plans. City and state authorities were urged to enforce the 1864 plan with Boston Water Power Company accountability, and a protest to the Mayor and Council was adopted.

Adjourned Bondholders Meeting Considers Milwaukee Lease

An adjourned gathering of Central Railroad Company of Iowa bondholders met at the Meionnon and reviewed a report proposing leasing the road to the Milwaukee and St Paul Railroad. The committee recommended a two year extension, resumption of interest in 1875, and a 30 percent gross earnings rental with interest guarantees. Some opposed leasing, urging independent inquiry, but the report was accepted and the meeting adjourned.

New Avenue to Cambridge Controversy and Aldermen Ballots

The Board of Aldermen debated an order to back a legislature act authorizing a new Boston Cambridge avenue. Some favored siding with citizen petition support, others warned against commitments. The measure was laid on the table. Elections for First and Second Assistant Assessor positions followed with multiple ward ballots and various candidates receiving votes. Overseers of the Poor nominees were split, and Fire Department expansion was referred to the Ordinances Committee. A special meeting discussed salaries, and a petition to widen Atlantic Avenue was refused passage due to potential legal conflicts with railroad privileges.
