John A. McCall died after a long illness from liver enlargement. He remained unconscious most of the day, woke briefly to see his wife, and died peacefully with Rev Father Matthew Taylor at his bedside. Mrs McCall is under medical care. The body will be taken to the West Seventy second street home tomorrow.

North End street brawl leaves two badly wounded

Two men beaten and stabbed during a street confrontation in the North End last night. Giuseppe Raia, 29, of 282 North Street, suffers stab wounds including a punctured lung at Relief Hospital. Giuseppe Taluna, 35, of Quincy Court, has facial wounds. Luigi Reppucci, 43, of 40 Lewis Street, is under arrest for assault with a broom. A bloodied knife was found on Reppucci when taken for questioning.

Jail inmate Gaskell escapes by ladder from fourth floor cell

Gaskell, held on larceny charges since June, was found missing at 7:30 am after entering a yard wall 19 feet high. A ladder and rope lay outside the wall. guards had recently tightened precautions following prior escapes. He had requested a suit of prison clothes and wore them in place of his usual garb.
