Pavonia Rumor About 2000 Miles From Pavonia Route

Rumor of a large liner sighted 200 miles off Halifax fuels hope Pavonia survived. Alexander Martin, Cunard agent, said sighting could be possible but unlikely given last report placing Pavonia 300 miles from the Azores and 2000 miles from Halifax.

Pianos in Boston Fire Cause Major Loss at Henry F Miller Co

A defective light wire in the basement of the Henry F Miller Piano Company at 7 50 last night caused a fire that damaged about $12 000 worth of stock and building. Five pianos were ruined by fire and smoke and water damaged the rest of the stock. The blaze spread from the retouching room to varnish storage near the entrance on Van Rasselaer place. Smoke drifted to the Old Library building where a dog show was underway, troubling attendees and pets. The building is owned by the J L Little estate.

Hon Lewis Miller Dies Prominent Akron Citizen

The Hon Lewis Miller of Akron Ohio died today in the Post Graduate Hospital after an operation. He founded the Chautauqua Assembly with Bishop Vincent and was a former Ohio congressman. His son Theodore was killed in battle in Cuba, another son Robert was appointed postmaster at Ponce Porto Rico, and a daughter is married to Thomas A Edison.

Lost 1887 silver dime offers $500 reward ad

Sunday readers were urged to report the return of a silver dime dated 1887 with LU and G marks and a triangular outline. The coin circulated in New York January 24 1899 and has ties to a cipher in the New York World with experts offering forty one rewards for best solutions. LENNEY AND DONOVAN represent the case.

McKinley Leaves Boston After Visit to State House and Subway

President McKinley toured the State House and subway in Boston before departing toward Washington amid a warm reception. He spoke to crowds at the Grand Army convention the Legislature and the Commercial Club and praised the subway project and engineering achievement. Immigrants watched the scene as police and Governor’s staff made a striking show.

Trio of Bandits Rob East Boston Stores

Three men believed linked to last Thursday’s Orient Heights Bernier residence robbery held up two East Boston parties last night. Bernard Miller, 36 Bennington St, was robbed of $10 after a gunpoint assault near Princeton and East Eagle streets, while Wing Lee of 679 Saratoga St. was menaced and $4-5 taken at his laundry. Police spread through ferries and nearby towns seeking the trio, linked to the Bernier break-in and the a prior Liver Pool St. grocery robbery.
