National Copper Mine Upswing Report From 1858 Letters

From the Pittsburg Evening Chronicle February edition, letters from the mine superintendent dated December 26, 1858, describe abundant copper in the National Copper Mine. The deep adit vein remains rich, No. 2 level yields 0 to 100 lb pieces, and a mass near No. 2 shaft exposes ton-scale copper. Vein near No. 1 shaft shows barrel and small masses, with east and west sections promising. In sum, the mine looks better than ever as 18 barrels weighing four tons are already weighed, with twelve men expected to stoping next month and more copper in sight.
