A fire at Harvard Square damaged the Cambridge police station and threatened its fire department headquarters. The blaze began around 2 30 am in the police station wing behind the fire station and was controlled by 3 am with Engine 1 and Ladder 1 on the first floor and the alarm room on the third floor involved.

A blaze that began in a hay loft spread to the third floor and across the wing to the station house. Smoke and water damaged the fire apparatus quarters and the women's detention room. No prisoners were in the police station, but all Cambridge stations prepared to take in any transferred prisoners. President Wilson formally consented to use of his name as a Presidential candidate in the coming campaign but stated he would not enter any contest for re nomination. The letter to the Ohio Secretary of State clarifies delegate nomination rules and signals the campaign plans of his political associates.
The New England league and the Eastern Association unite to form a new league comprising Lowell Lawrence Lynn Worcester and Portland from the New England side and Bridgeport New Haven New London Hartford and Springfield from the Eastern Association. The merger was approved today by J H Farrell secretary of the National Association after committee study.
The committee chaired by Mr Farrell with E G Barrow and T H Murnane finds that invested property rights and public demand justify merging to conserve the best interests of baseball.

Covino and Carvilli reported the firm’s troubles to police and a grand jury.
The U S government faces an awkward stance after inviting Entente powers to refrain from arming merchant vessels. Germany and its allies warn they will treat armed ships as warships and sink them without warning after March 1. Washington plans no action on the German note.
Representatives of the allies told Secretary Lansing they cannot accept the U S suggestion and claim international law allows arming merchant vessels for defense. The administration faces an awkward position and may wait to see future developments.

Investigators say an under-gardener buried the poison under orders from Orpet senior at the Cyrus McCormick estate greenhouse.
