President Taft's reciprocal agreement with Canada passed the House 221 to 92. Republicans split 87 against and 78 for while Democrats backed 143 to 5. The bill moves to the Senate with Taft urging action and an extra session possible if needed.
Hungarian born painter Princess Lwoff-Parlaghy arrived in Boston last night in a compartment of the observation car attached to the Merchants Limited. She traveled with attendants, a bodyguard, a physician, and Koh-i-noor her pet dog. The princess chose a rear observation and smoking car stateroom to avoid drawing attention.

Professor James Richard Jewett, currently chair of semitic languages and oriental history at the University of Chicago, has accepted Harvard's offer to fill that chair. He will resign and move East in the spring. He cites a larger field for his specialty and personal reasons.

Senator Lodge and Representative Kelcher pushed bills to raise the building appropriation from 200000 to 250000 dollars.
Rudolph Francke in New York plans a sledge expedition to polar seas with scientists and Eskimos from Etah across Elsmereland to Bradley Land. He aims to reach the Jeannette wreck site and Henrietta Island, then the Siberian coasts, seeking Cook's records and Bradley Land.
