Mayor Fitzgerald and the City Council held a fifth meeting on the annual appropriation bill in City Hall. Representatives from Wards 6 through 12 spoke on local needs and the mayor promised a report on every proposition after hearings and bill preparation. He noted many proposals were raised and full reporting would be extensive.
Andrew Badaracco of Ward 6 urged three weekly garbage collections in winter and daily pickups in July and August. He urged abatement of smoke nuisance and protested hawker noise, recommending selling hours limited to 9 am to 9 pm. The meeting was held in the old Common Council chamber with Mayor Fitzgerald presiding.
North End seeks women tenement inspectors and a new tenement commission. $35,000 for North End Park repairs. A new street between North and South stations and a Public Library. Pedlar restrictions from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Back Bay calls for a Charles Street subway and smoke nuisance abolition. Prince School upgrade and better garbage removal. West End pushes a ward 8 new school, year round bath house, a street from Causeway to Poplar, and bath house plus gym on Boston Common. South End wants a new City Hall in Castle Square with a rail station, better sewerage, railroad electrification, more Washington Street car stops, Arlington Street extension to Castle Square, smoke nuisance abatement, and higher property assessments.
A North End representative urged appointing women inspectors for tenement houses and creating a special tenement house commission. He said the North End bathhouse is in very poor condition and that repairing it would require $55,000. Continued on Page 2-Third Column.

A fire last night at David Starr's Turkish baths on Salem Street forced twenty four women to flee their rooms in scanty attire. Fire started in the front storefront and burned undetected for some time before discovery, sending patrons into the street wrapped in whatever coverings they could grab.
A Turkish bathhouse evacuees and bystanders fled as flames engulfed Silver Bros dry goods store on Salem Street. Miss Dorothy Rovitt raised the alarm and led tenants to safety while Patrolman George Richardson carried a smoke‑scorched heroine down to the street. The fire caused about 700 dollars in damage and was contained with the baths reopening soon after.
