Harbors Bill Up To Senate

Senate commerce committee finishes rivers and harbor appropriation bill after amendments. The measure totals 46 million 672 thousand 958 dollars, up 5.7 million from the House version and about 20 million more than last year. Providence river and harbor receives 972 thousand dollars, including 100 thousand in cash.

Two Arrested in Slave Case At Pittsfield Court

Salvatore Zucco proprietor of the Farmers Inn Pittsfield and Salva tore Longo a Hartford shoemaker were arraigned in U S District Court on a secret indictment for violating the white slave act. Bail set at 10000 each. both jailed in default. Indictment says they moved Gladys R Smith known as Rosie Smith from Hartford to Pittsfield on December 23 for improper purposes.

Dragged to death by belt at Vermont quarry plant

Barre Vermont February 13 Robert Vernon age 45 of the Dublois and Vernon granite firm was killed when his clothing became entangled in a belt shafting and drawn into the machinery He leaves a widow and four children who reside in St Johnsbury.
