Alice Cary's Death Mourned Across Generations

The passing of Alice Cary prompts sorrow among thousands who cherished her poetry and novels. Born near Cincinnati fifty years ago, she wrote for Western periodicals with modest schooling but abundant genius, creating poems with her sister Phebe and numerous novels and juvenile pieces, leaving a fragrant memory of a noble writer. A separate editorial note argues against renaming New Mexico after Lincoln, urging Congress to keep the historic name due to Mexican descent population opposition and the impractical, inappropriate nature of a change.
