Republicans Leave Their Seats and No Quorum Reported

In Xingfield Illinois on February 1 the Republican members abandoned their seats during a roll call as 56 Democrats voted. A motion to elect a limited States senator was blocked by Speaker Haines who ruled a quorum absent. Senate and House adjourned with Morrison the only vote tally noted and the session adjourned until noon tomorrow amid continued deadlock.

Explosion at Vale colliery kills many in Nova Scotia mine
