Widow to Get Income of Estate
The codicil to the will of Marcellus S. Ayer, founder of the Temple on Exeter Street, leaves the entire income from his estate to his wife Hattie M. Ayer with 400 dollars to her mother Abbie Dodge. The codicil revokes the prior arrangement that income be used mainly for the First Spiritual Temple upkeep and spiritual work. The will, dated 1905, directed trustees of the First Spiritual Temple to manage the trust to fund temple upkeep and spiritual aims, with annual reports to the Spiritualist Society and a prudent, economical administration to sustain the works of the society.
