St John’s Episcopal Church on North Third street suffered about five thousand dollars in fire damage. The interior was completely burned out, and the building, erected in 1820, will take weeks to be usable for services. The church has long attracted visitors from across the country.

Battles with Highwaymen on Bowdoin Square

Almon King proprietor of a Bowdoin square pool room was robbed of about $20 and his watch after a morning street attack by two highwaymen on Howard street. A short stout man struck him in the head while a tall muscular man fought him face to face. His watch and chain were torn from his pocket. he chased one assailant through the area as abrasions and a bite marked the fray.

In Prattville two frightened horses left in front of a parochial residence on Tudor street bolted through Chelsea and Washington avenues. Salvador Head Dead By Bullet reports President Manuel E. Araujo of El Salvador died from wounds inflicted by an assassin on Feb. 4. Don Carlos Melendez to succeed as chief executive.
