Mrs Margaret E Hollingsworth, on the 13th wedding anniversary to her first husband, died last night at 9 Linwood Square Roxbury. She deliberately took cyanide of potassium after staging a dramatic final scene to strike effect.
The body of a 23 year old woman, widow of her first husband Fred Culverwell, is found with a farewell note and a picture in her hand. She had planned to join him after a failed gas suicide years earlier. Her second husband Fred Hollingsworth, a traveling salesman, is stunned by the death and a hidden romance emerges. Ina Culverwell and Edna Culverwell witness the events surrounding her demise.
More than 100000 worshippers filled Protestant churches across Greater Boston for Go-to-Church Sunday. Attendance reportedly doubled citywide and exceeded Easter crowds, with no special musical programs used. Continued on Page S-First Column.
The Rev. Norman MacQueen pastor of Union Square Presbyterian Church in Somerville quieted his congregation and prevented a panic when a fire started last night in the house at 19 Warren Avenue, which adjoins the church.
Bells on the fire apparatus and a whistle drove three young women from the Warren Avenue church during services. Mr. Mac Queen urged calm as others paused, and the service ended soon after. The fire began in a cellar and burned through the second and third floors, forcing lodgers to flee the building.
London reports a Unionist tactic to halt Irish home rule by dissolving Parliament or amending the bill to end Ireland’s army. The looming session opens with home rule Welsh disestablishment and other measures, risking government confidence as votes threaten ministry retirement.
The session will begin with debate on the reply to the speech from the throne. MPs may criticise the government’s measures, with motions possible on the Panama exhibition and Ulster negotiations. The Welsh disestablishment bill may take precedence while home rule is left for later.
Charles I Manning is charged with murder linked to the slaying of his wife Harriet Manning at her mother's home. Manning had been jailed and Hazel Herdman, who loved him, died after taking poison hours earlier. Herdman killed Mrs Manning stating she refused divorce. Manning is accused as an accessory before and after the fact.
Manning says he knew nothing about the Herdman girl's plan to kill his wife and herself. Mrs. Mannings family spoke with him in his cell with authorities present. A stenographer was summoned as police kept the conference secret. Funerals for the two women are set for tomorrow. Manning arranged his wife’s burial. Miss Herdman, who was questioned and freed, confessed she killed for love of Manning’s husband and because Mrs. Manning blocked them.
Rita Myers, 17, of 258 Willow Avenue Somerville, reports being the seventh victim of a snatch thief who has operated in West Somerville during the past fortnight. The incident adds to a string of similar thefts reported in the neighborhood.
A young man approached a woman on Highland Avenue near Henry Avenue and offered to walk with her. He grabbed her white muff, fled toward Hancock Street toward the Somerville Highlands station, then disappeared onto the railroad tracks after dropping the muff when pursued.
A three alarm blaze hit the W A Wood Company paint oil and varnish works at 371 373 Atlantic avenue at 2 30 this morning. An explosion in the rear sparked the fire which quickly roared through the second and third floors. Firefighters faced exploding fears and dense smoke as flames spread to the roof.
Fires raced through the Wood paint works at 26 Purchase street destroying the six story Wood building. Flames spread to adjacent paint shops E and F King at 851 Atlantic avenue and Schollkopf Hartford and Dana as Protective 1 and fire crews fought back. Chief Mullen ordered power shut off at 2 50 pm and firefighters battled the blaze from trestle work and ladders amid scorching heat.

Forecast from Washington on February 8 says southern New England will have fair skies on Monday and Tuesday with continued cold conditions and moderate west winds along the coast. The report notes cold in the Boston area with fair weather and modest onshore to westerly breezes.
Temperature figures from yesterday include 14 43 14 in Georgia and nearby areas with readings around 30 29 25 at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. A mid 20s value appears at 12 mid. The noisy OCR lists several inconsistent numbers likely representing hourly values and locations.
William E. English, secretary of the Hospital Reform Association, claims to know Eleanor Arlin’s whereabouts, missing Brookline stenographer, as Mrs. Jane Arlin arrives from Colebrook, N H. English says Arlin is confined in a sanitarium within ten miles of Boston, to Marion K Brown.
The statement challenges officials who claimed no knowledge of the girl and impossibility of entry without parental consent. Mrs. Arlin arrives from Colebrook to meet Miss Brown and visit Mr. English with plans to identify the missing girl. A sanitarium or home setting is noted as the treatment site for delusional insanity.
