Outrages at Latimer Court Trial Sparks Threats and Gunfire

At the Latimer trial of Sheriff Martin and deputies, witnesses testified to threats and gunfire. John Lynch said a deputy struck him. others claimed lines like I d get a bead on that fellow and I d like to get a pop at them. Pottinger and Fortschek corroborated threats and flag desecration.

Quebec express wreck kills engineer at Petit Roche

At Petit Roche seven miles from Bathurst the Quebec express left the Intercolonial track plunging down an embankment at about 2 15 am. Engineer William Bastlin was killed, fireman Poole severely injured, and other crew escaped. Cause believed broken rail.

Death of Senator James E. Hayes in Boston

Senator James E. Hayes died at City Hospital after a brief illness from injuries after a fall. Eulogies were given and the Massachusetts Senate and nine members of the lower house adjourned in respect. Funeral set for Thursday at 8:30 from his Everett Street home and 9 from St. Crangic de Sales Church with Knights of Columbus arranging.
