Awful Maine experience in heavy storm saves few lives

The fleet battled a fierce storm as the battleship Maine listed and men went overboard. Seaman Brown, marine Nelson, Kozel and Haskell perished while Creelman rescued Kozel. Life boats overturned, several ships damaged but not seriously. The Marblehead Amphitrite Columbia and Maine reached safety.
