Fire damages cotton at Exchange Street office

Samples of cotton caught fire yesterday morning around 8 o clock in Bates Richardson and Atkinson office in Union Building Exchange Street. The blaze damaged cotton and the building for several thousand dollars.

City Board Holds Weekly Session with Elections and Orders

The board met in the mayor's chair with petitions read and referred. Officers were elected including N Henry Crafts City Engineer and John T Gardner Harbor Master, plus others for bridges, health, streets, and city hospital trustees. An Army recruitment funding bill was rejected and Broadway railroad stable approval granted. Adjourned.
