Halifax dispatched tugs to search for the Damara’s hull remains after she struck Musquodoboit Ledge at sea. The 1145 ton Glasgow built iron steamer, en route from Liverpool to Halifax via St. John’s, foundered as pumps failed and fires died. Survivors’ names were not yet received.

Newport R I Feb 7 The Nantucket Shoals lightship was forced ashore by ice as gunboat Hist and two tugs failed to float it away after breaking hawsers. A new attempt will occur at the next high tide. Heavy ice conditions and supplies thrown overboard hampered recovery. Return to New Bedford for repairs planned.
