East Tennessee Relief Move Advances in Legislature

A joint committee of lawmakers and citizens met in the Senate Chamber to consider relief for East Tennessee. A resolution urged a 100000 dollar state appropriation, with committees named to draft preamble and resolutions for Monday. The Senate president and House speaker were instructed to invite Col. Taylor to address Boston crowds at Faneuil Hall.

Mass. Adjutant Cheever Mortally Wounded and Prisoners Reported

A private letter from Newbern reports Adjutant Henry A. Cheever of the 17th Massachusetts mortally wounded and dead. several officers including Lieut. Col Fellows and Capt Floyd taken prisoner. Of 120 men and 13 officers, about 50 or 60 men and five officers returned. Cheever was son of Deacon Ira Cheever of Chelsea. Capt. W H McCartney moved to rejoin the army. Col Charles R Train named provost judge and judge advocate in General Butler's Department.

Fire destroys stable of Moses French Jr on Maine wharf

A Saturday fire at Moses French Jr's wood and coal stable on Maine wharf 364 Broad Street destroyed the building and contents. Nine horses died, harnesses hay and grain were lost, with total damage about 2500. Insurance covered by Prescott Dorchester Mutual and other companies. Early Sunday the fire reignited, consuming the stable and part of the coal yard along with Cutting and Earle's junk store at 372 Broad Street.

Long Island Camp Relocated to Galloupe Island

Local report notes the camp on Long Island will be moved Friday to Galloupe's Island and will be ready for Spring and Summer use. The record lists 96 city deaths last week: 46 males and 50 females. The Gazette reports officials may visit Kezdville to assess mud for land filling and notes $192 690 in private real estate sales last week. Nineteenth Massachusetts Regiment Arrives Home Reenlisted

The Nineteenth Massachusetts Regiment returns from seventeen battles having reenlisted for the war. They left New York at five yesterday evening and arrive in Boston in time for an early breakfast. A formal reception is set for eleven this forenoon, with Gov Andrew hoped to address the veterans at Faneuil Hall if recovered.

Mr Lane and Lang's Concerts at Music Hall

A Boston report reviews a varied evening of concerts and stage acts. Notable performances include Mr Lang and Mr Eichberg on violin piano and organ, Miss Houston singing, and an original composition greeted with applause. Gen. Burnside and family attended. A sacred concert at Howard Athenium featured Miss Caroline Richings with praise for her sacred interpretations.

Payment of Government Creditors on 50 Percent Plan

A Washington despatch reports the Treasury directed General Skinner to pay all government creditors at 50 percent in legal tender, with the remainder in certificates of indebtedness. Ten million dollars in 5 percent legal tenders were sent to the Army of the Cumberland and one million to New Orleans. Reports from Knoxville say our forces are in a critical condition and deserters are entering our lines. A Richmond blockade runner was captured with gold turned over to the government. A Baltimore American note adds details from Waterford Virginia on rebel cavalry activity near Upperville and a pending conscription crackdown. General Sullivan issues Order No 9 warning counties in West Virginia frontier of conscription resistance, with arrests to follow.

Love's Brigade Skirmish Near Cumberland Gap Ends Quietly

On Friday last, three cavalry brigades 1600 strong under Col. Love clashed with Jones's rebels on the Virginia road, 13 miles from the Cumberland Gap. After three hours they withdrew at dusk, then repelled a morning attack by 4000 infantry and 3 guns. Casualties: 5 killed, 8 wounded, 3 missing for 8th Tenn. Capt. Newport killed. Rebels lost 10 killed, 15 to 20 wounded. Goward vows to hold the post. Knoxville reports nothing definite.
