Washington officials are astonished as Germany keeps Gerard confined in Berlin with an official order. He cannot leave until Bernstorff is treated properly in America. The stance violates diplomatic courtesy and signals possible war intent against the United States.
Lloyds reports the British steamship Port Adelaide with passengers aboard has been sunk. Ninety six passengers and crew have been picked up at sea, and the captain was captured by the U-boat.
Reports from Copenhagen via London say 15 vessels were sunk by submarines in a day and the German government will not let James W. Gerard leave Berlin until Count von Bernstorff’s safety is assured. U S officials fear a move toward war or coercion as Berlin weighs treatment of Bernstorff in exile.
Mrs. Gladys Power Wilson of 97 St Stephen Street Back Bay told a Post reporter last night that her two young children were kidnapped at North Station during Monday morning’s storm. They were taken from their guardian’s care and driven away in a high powered automobile. nothing is heard since.
Mrs. Wilson, a 24 year old divorcée from San Diego, alleges agents hired by her California dentist ex husband abducted Julia Lee six and Willie Jr three as they prepared to cross a turnstile near an elevated station. A woman ally is being sought and a nationwide alert has been issued following the pair’s disappearance.
Frances Green a 19 year old of Lowell street Boston collapsed on Mountain avenue bridge Malden from hunger and fatigue yesterday afternoon. She recovered two hours later at Malden Hospital where she will stay until fully recovered.
Captain John B. Coyle reports the Kronprinzessin Cecilie, a German refugee liner, is a ruined wreck after US Coast Guard inspection. Sixpert electricians search for a hidden electrical plant linked to mines while a sulfur odor permeates the vessel emanating from lower compartments.
Captain Coyle reports the cylinders on both high pressure engines have been destroyed. A three foot long piece of steel was cut from each cylinder making the engines inoperable. Cylinder heads were irreparably damaged as bolt heads were knocked off.

Congress approved significant boosts to defence funding with the naval bill advancing. The action adds about 15 million dollars, including over 5 million for ammunition for merchant auxiliaries and nearly 2 million for anti air craft guns to defend naval stations.
