Roxbury Loan Company Clerk Shot During Robbery Attempt

John J. Gately a clerk at Roxbury Loan Company 1247 Tremont street was shot and seriously wounded by three gunmen who tried to rob the cash drawer and safes. Gately fired four shots wounding none. the robbers escaped through Tremont street crowds. A similar Salem robbery followed as two men matching the Roxbury suspects were later arrested at the Commercial House in Salem. James J Cook 18 of 19 Bentingon Street Lawrence and Joseph Lonergan of 305 Oak Street Lawrence were identified, each with a revolver.

Man Copes After Robbery. Calls Employer for Help

After the robbers fled, Gately crawled to a telephone and tried to contact Lazarus Davis of 28 Angel Street Dorchester to alert Roxbury police. A witness, a young man who saw the gunmen exit, uncovers his attempted communication.

Widow Annie Colby’s body found in Crystal Lake mystery solved

The disappearance of Mrs. Annie E. Colby a Brookline widow and former state senator’s wife was solved when Crystal Lake ice broke and her body surfaced. Identified by clothing, her relatives will claim the body for funeral today. The search involved Newton police and Boy Scouts after she escaped a Newton sanatorium on December 4.

Bremner Dies in Baltimore After Radium Treatment

Robert Gunn Bremner member of Congress from New Jersey seventh district and editor of the Passaic Daily Herald died in a Baltimore sanitarium where he had undergone radium treatment since December. He had suffered cancer for four years. He was 69 years old.
