Two firemen were injured and Miss Mary Smith of Charlestown was rescued as a $50,000 blaze gutted the New England Trunk Company stock room on the fourth floor of a four story wooden building in Everett. The fire spread rapidly aided by a strong northwest wind.
Watchman George Cooper sounded alarms after discovering a blazing four story wooden factory near Sullivan Square. Chief Swan ordered additional alarms and local aid from Chelsea Malden and Charlestown. The blaze gutted the top floors within minutes while a firebrand ignited a nearby home. One firefighter fell 30 feet during hose operation and was hospitalized.
Miss Catherine McCue aged elderly, weak from starvation fears, was taken from her South Boston home at neighbors urging. A search of the ill kept rooms uncovered cash in a tin box along with bank books, deeds, mortgages and securities implying substantial wealth and a large household.
Neighbors found 82 year old Mrs McCue collapsed in her basement kitchen at 12 Lark Street. Police and a physician aided her and she was taken to Austin Farm sanitarium after she resisted hospital care. Two bank books and two houses indicated wealth over ten thousand dollars.
An answer to the bill in equity filed in Eddy New Hampshire seeks to uphold the will of Mary Baker Eddy. George W. Glover of Lead South Dakota contests the residuary bequest claiming NH and MA law bars the First Church of Christ Scientist Boston from receiving the bequest. Executors and trustees named as defendants contest the petition.
The court weighs if a bequest to Mrs. Eddy falls under broad denominational use beyond one church. Defendants argue the gift serves educational and charitable aims of Christian Science and broader religious relief. Continued on page 12 third column.
Fifteen Jews were arrested at Novosielitz in Bessarabia on charges of acting as agents for the International Colonization Society. Authorities denied $25,000 bail for their release.
Major N L Lapowski reports Orozco forces defeated federal troops 10 miles south of Juarez capturing arms and delaying the Juarez attack. Insurgents ditched a regular passenger train on the Juarez division of the Mexico Northwest Railway at Buacho ten miles south of Juarez, last night.
An entire fishing village of 253 men was swept from Bjorko Sound by a gale and carried out to sea. Rescue boats were dispatched but had not returned by morning, and the disaster remained unseen until daylight.

Jefferson City Missouri February fire destroyed the state capitol built in 1839. Lightning struck the cupola and flames spread to the House of Representatives roof. Inadequate water pressure hampered fighting the blaze as Governor Hadley ordered defense efforts and penitentiary staff aided in sealing walls.
The Ashmont Congregational Church in Dorchester receives a brief resignation letter from Rev. Lyman B. Weeks effective immediately. The notice is with church committee president Harrison H. Atwood, former congressman.
Albert G. Thompson, longtime Lowell postmaster, died after a long illness at age 51. Born October 2, 1853 in South Berwick Maine, he moved to Lowell in 1872 and was appointed postmaster in 1897 by McKinley, serving a fourth term at the time of his death from heart disease.
Advices from various directions confirm reports that the Waterman Institute treatment for epilepsy shows wonderful results. Many old stubborn cases improved and some patients claim cure. Sufferers are urged to write to the Waterman Institute at 122 East 25th Street New York for a supply of the remedy distributed gratis.
Rev. Thomas I. Gasson Sr. spoke for an hour at Ford Hall under Baptist Social Union auspices about socialism as a danger to domestic, personal, and national integrity. He then answered questions from floor Socialists and criticized the Roman Catholic church with calm, steady replies.
John Whitelaw an ex express messenger died by suicide amid a Grand Trunk wreck near Paris Ontario after urging rescuers to help him before flames engulfed his car. Four other victims perished in the fire during the late Saturday night crash.
Fred Ennis aged about 40 of Richmond street shot himself in his home after losing life savings in the stock market. He was taken to Central Hospital in critical condition and not expected to recover by morning.
J Walter Shields of West Philadelphia is charged with shooting Christie Kenney of Lancaster New Hampshire early this morning after revelry in Shields room at the Moosilauke Hotel. Shields is in town lockup awaiting further action and has claimed brother Albert Shields, a Philadelphia lawyer, as a relative. He also claimed their father built foundations for the Statue of Liberty. He is about 50.
The victim, about ten years younger than the assailant, a Lancaster native and head lumber surveyor, was shot in Warren. Two of four shots struck him: one pierced both lungs above the heart and another lodged in the right leg below the knee. Continued on page 2.
