Mayor Curley widens rift by appointing John A. Sullivan, termed ex mayor Fitzgerald’s bitter foe, as corporation counsel. Sullivan resigns from the Finance Commission. Minton to act pending Civil Service confirmation. Corbett resigns. Sullivan’s name to Civil Service Board pending.
In Hamilton Bermuda on February 3 during a Bermudan Aquarium performance Australian swimmer Annette Kellerman and Herbert Brennan suffered severe injuries when an 8000 gallon glass tank burst. The glass front gave way as water rushed out injuring Kellerman on the left side and Brennan with deep gashes to arms and legs. Brennan was hospitalized and Kellerman was taken to her hotel for care.
Chicago women filled registration desks in the first opportunity to register as voters. The weather aided turnout with estimates ranging from 150000 to 200000, while polling places were kept clean and officials avoided smoking.
